My dear readers,
You know, this is the first email I've written where my co-worker-owners (hi, guys!) specifically asked to review this email before I send. Apparently, they'd like it to not be "too unhinged", but I like to think I strike a pretty good balance between hinged and unhinged. In any case, rest assured, this email will be 100% co-op approved.
If you're a regular reader of this irregular newsletter, you'll likely already be familiar with our co-op's eternal struggle against the realities of economies of scale and capitalism at large, and the personal toll it takes trying to be kinda righteous while also keeping this co-op alive for so many years.
I'm at the point with this project where I just cannot keep up this level of hustle indefinitely, and I can't spend the rest of my life unable to really take a day off or go on vacation because I might be called in to cover a shift. Folks, I'm getting old! I just can't keep it up. No pun intended, but also...
So, we're closing the shop in Kensington from October 5th and we'll be reopening on October 12th.
When we reopen, we'll be moving to "Fall/Winter" hours and we'll only be open Thursday - Sunday.
This is both a financial and a quality-of-life decision. I'm getting a whole week off work for the first time in literal years AND that's three whole days of the week where no one can call me in to do anything. Woot.
We're also going to be hosting a couple of little events in October, and I'll be sure to write you a fairly unhinged email about those soon too!
