Before reading this book, I had only seen examples of polyamory that didn't feel right for /me/. This book is written in a way that really showed me that i could find what fits for me, just as long as I'm doing it ethically and safely. I found the language used really reassuring and preferred it over some other popular options.
Loved this easy to read, relatable guide to being an ethical slut. highly recommend for newbies and experienced folks alike!
I've read a few books on nonmonogamy and this is my favourite. Interspersed amongst the information are stories of early nonmonogamy pioneers; it's wonderful to learn a bit more about people who were on the forefront of this lifestyle. Janet and Dossie deal with everything open relationships and more, covering jealousy, how to have healthy discussions, trauma, practical issues around poly in society at large, how to talk to your children about it, dealing with your own childhood hangups and view about sex, safer sex info, and all the different ways this type of relationship can work, with good examples from the community.
The lessons in this book overlap very nicely with general life wisdom and strategies and techniques from various types of therapy, so this is valuable information for anyone in any relationship style who wants to live a more conscious and ethical life.
Highly recommended!
